I can't believe it's been 9 years since I left Atlanta, but thanks to my Headshot Mini Sessions, I continue to meet amazing new clients like Lily and her family. Lily's Mom was so pleased with her headshot that she asked me to do their company headshots as well as Lily's senior session.

So, we all know the life of an event photographer is all about capturing moments. But guess what? This year, I dared to step out from behind the lens and embraced life beyond the viewfinder. From mingling at corporate gigs to getting up close and personal with a sloth, the adventures were real, and I've got the pics to prove it!

I had the privilege of photographing events for her company, JMP, and their sister company, Sas. The trust she placed in me was a testament to the importance of building strong relationships in the business world. But the journey didn't stop there. I had the pleasure of photographing team headshots and even organized a 'Headshot' marathon at the renowned Umstead Hotel and Spa.

It's been one heck of a journey, and I've gotta say, "I've come a long way, baby!" From those early days of fumbling with my camera to now, where I'm STILL fumbling....but with a little more purpose. In the era of smartphones and instant sharing, it may be tempting to rely on your own devices to capture your family's memorable occasions. These tips apply to event event planners, keynote speakers, and even attendees. We're talking about simple things like posing in a group photo, being on stage, and communicating with your photographer about what you want captured and how you plan to use the photos. Trust me, a little bit of mindfulness goes a long way in making sure your photos turn out amazing.

I'm excited to share that I'll be heading to Dallas this week to work with Autodesk and capture photographs at their TechX event. As a photographer who has captured many meetings, general sessions, and guest speakers, I've noticed that events like these tend to have higher engagement rates when attendees are there because they want to be.

Let’s take a moment to discuss how you can look the best in the event photos that may be captured, shared on social or the company’s internal shared folder…..forever and ever. This list is typically based on actual photos I’ve shot and sometimes thought, “I can’t embarrass this person with this photo.” The innocent have been protected.

Congratulations on the opportunity of speaking in front of an audience about a subject you are passionate about! This blog post is not your excuse to act like a diva and request green M&Ms.  ;)  Your primary focus should definitely be about creating quality content for your presentation and not falling on stage #speakergoals. But once you have that nailed down, you can focus on marketing yourself and getting quality photos of you on stage. I’ve photographed so many keynote speakers, panels and general sessions over the past few years and I’ve struggled capturing some of the speakers. This is my list of “If they just did this I could get a decent photo”…….
