10 Travel Items for the Event Professional | Event Photographer - Kelli Price

  • You’re so lucky!

  • That must be fun to travel all the time!

  • You live THE life!

  • Do you need an assistant?

If you are reading this, I’m assuming you are an Event Professional and I bet you have heard all these plus more! Yes, we are lucky to do what we love and I really don’t think I could go back to a 9-5 job (I considered it in 2020 for sure!) But WE all know that being on the road has its difficulties, like getting decent sleep in hotel rooms, exercising regularly and the hardest….eating healthy on the road.

Here are a few things that make my life on the road just a little bit easier & healthier. What are YOUR tips, I would love to hear and share them!

TRAVEL ITEMS

Cabeau Evolution Travel Pillow - I’ve tried a few of these travel pillows over the years, blow up ones, beanie ones etc. but this one is the best! I can zonk out on long flights in no time with this pillow. It has a cool little connector that keeps the pillow from slipping off AND it packs down into a smaller little case. No walking around the airport with the pillow around your neck #travelrookie

Foldable Squatty Potty - IYKYN, traveling can just make some things difficult or irregular *ahem. I love bringing my FOLDABLE & light Squatty Potty with me when I have room in my suit case (it definitely takes priority). I also bring it camping and to Burning Man. #NoShame.

Isotoner Ballerina Slippers - I’m not 100 years old, but I’m about to sound like a little old lady. My Mum got me a pair of these a few years ago for Christmas and I was like, “Uh no way I’m wearing these.” But one day I put them in a suitcase because they are flat and take up no space. Now I wear them all of the time in my hotel rooms….they protect my feet from grotty hotel floors and gives my feet a little cushy break.

Yoga mat towel - Carrying my camera bag and being on my feet all day really does a number on my body, so when I travel I focus on stretching and easy walks. It really helps with any soreness. I thought hotels towels would work for yoga, but they are just too slippery for downward dog or lunges. This is lower on the list, but when I have space I bring my yoga mat towel for yoga in the room.

Tech Pouch - I’m sure most of you have something similar for all of your cords, accessories etc. but I really love this one from Peak Designs …..it holds so much in all the little pockets! I have my computer mouse, cords, extra camera cards, chapstick, medicine, pens and a little notepad in mine!

FOOD & HEALTH ITEMS

Bonus to the first 4 food & health items?? They are shareable with new friends & clients!

Mineral Bath Soak (travel size) - We need to take care of our bodies so we are ready to go again the next day and a nice hot bath is something I’ve started doing more recently. Some of the fancier hotels have soaking salts, but we aren’t always that lucky. I’ve started packing a couple of these for events with long days and they really help to ease sore muscles before bed. Also, after a long day on our feet its a great opportunity to take advantage of some of the gorgeous bathtubs!! Travel Tip: Make sure to put them in a plastic baggie so you don’t get salt in your clothes.

Nuun Energy tablets - We all love a Starbucks run, but let’s be honest….they aren’t cheap or the healthiest option when you need a little pep in your step. Just plop these in your water (don’t forget to hydrate!) for a little caffeine, B vitamin and electrolytes. I like that they won’t make you feel jittery or overly caffeinated! Tip: easy to add to an Amazon Subscription.

Sunwarrior shakes - I’m excited to see healthier options on buffets and plated dinners, but as staff we typically eat later. And we all know that when we are hungry we don’t make good food choices, “Hello breadstick basket with a lot of butter.” I like these shakes as a snack before going to work so I’m not starving by the time I eat. They are also really convenient when you are crunched for time or traveling, just add water!!

Almond Butter Packs - We usually have access to fruit like apples & bananas, but no protein! Proteins helps us stay fuller longer so I try to have protein with each meal (my nutritionist told me to & I do what I’m told). So, these almond butter packs are easy to add to my bag. Tip: easy to add to an Amazon Subscription.

Bamboo Travel Utensil Set - I keep a set of sustainable cutlery I got from MAP in Truckee in my suitcase. Because NOTHING is worse then ordering food during your quick break, sneaking back to your room and realizing you have nothing to eat it with!!
